Stanley’s breeder asked what I was looking for in a dog. My response was short, “I want a male puppy with the softest temperament”. I didn’t care about size or colour. I just wanted the cuddliest pup. She matched me with the perfect puppy.

Stanley was a “woolly” Wolfhound. His coat was longer and softer than it should be for his breed. One of my greatest accomplishments was keeping Stan’s coat natural without clipping him down. He had to be line combed every other week, or he would mat to the skin. Thankfully Stan enjoyed being groomed, and he would nap until I asked him to flip over, which he kindly obliged.

Stanley was diagnosed with OCD (osteochondritis dissecans) when he was six months old. He had surgery at seven months and was on restricted activity until he was ten months old. This impacted his social development. He was isolated in my office (with me) and only left the property for vet appointments and physiotherapy. As a result, he was rather timid and very needy. He was reserved around strangers but would warm up if given some time.

Stan was a giant momma’s boy, and I was blessed to be his mom.
